SCHAUMBURG, IL – The Schaumburg Boomers presented by Wintrust Community Banks, are pleased to announce Tony Smith has been hired by the Detroit Tigers organization. Smith will head to the Double A Erie SeaWolves as a player development coach. Smith has been part of the coaching staff since 2016. He started out as a bullpen coach and then took over as pitching coach at the beginning of the 2017 season. Additionally, he pitched for the 2014 Boomers team that won the Frontier League Championship. His 2014 season as a player saw him pitch in 24 games mostly out of the bullpen. He posted a 6-2 record with a 3.27 ERA over 57.2 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts. Under the guidance of Smith the Boomers pitching staff has been outstanding. The 2017 season saw the pitching staff help lead the Boomers to 66 wins (franchise record) and a third Frontier League Championship. The…
