MOORHEAD, MINN. – The St. Paul Saints have sold the contract of RHP Zack Jones to the New York Mets, the American Association announced. Jones is the 12th American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019, and the 32nd since the beginning of the 2018 regular season. Jones signed with the Saints following his release by the Minnesota Twins last summer, and quickly became a dominating end-of-the-game arm in St. Paul’s bullpen. He was 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA and ten saves as he helped lead the Saints to the American Association Championship Series. Jones pitched 26.2 innings and allowed eight runs (six earned) on 19 hits. He struck out 38 batters and walked ten. Jones was originally selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2012 draft out of San Jose State University in California. He climbed through the Twins organization for six-plus seasons and spent much of the past three seasons at the Double-A level. He also had a brief stint with the Milwaukee Brewers in Triple-A and Double-A in 2016 before returning to Minnesota.
