Lake Erie Sweeps Double Header Over Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, MI. — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, used two solid pitching performances and some big time hits to sweep the doubleheader from the Traverse City Beach Bums on Wednesday night. It didn’t take long for Lake Erie to open the scoring in game one. A run in the first inning gave the Crushers a 1-0 lead before they broke the game open in the second inning. The Crushers scored twice in the second inning before Sean Hurley delivered a two-run double, making it 5-0. Cody Lenahan followed with an RBI double to push the lead to 6-0. The Crushers scored again in the third when Mason Brown scored on a wild pitch and Dane Hutcheon doubled in Joel McKeithan to make it 8-0. All eight runs were charged to Luke DeVenney (0-1) who went six innings. Crushers starter Mason Klotz (3-3) was dealing for Lake Erie. Klotz allowed a hit in the first inning and didn’t allow another until the seventh inning. The right-hander pitched all seven innings which was a season-high while allowing just two hits and one walk. He struck out five in the win. Game two was tightly contested as the Beach Bums…
