ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers took over first place in the United Shore Professional Baseball League and pushed their winning streak to five to highlight This Week in the USPBL. The Utica Unicorns’ Carter Grote became the second player in five days to make ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays, finishing with the No. 6 play of the night. The Hoppers defeated the Mammoths last Saturday, 8-2, to take over the top spot in the league standings at 6-3. Eastside has used strong starting pitching and defense to springboard ahead of the pack in the early going. The Unicorns’ Spencer Ibarra took over the home run lead in the USPBL with a pair of dingers last week en route to being named player of the week. Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers’ Jack Hranec continues to lead the race for the batting title, hitting at a .390 clip, while right-handed pitcher Josh Mason leads the way with a 3-0 record for the Westside Woolly Mammoths. The USPBL has produced 20 players that have signed with MLB organizations over the last two seasons.
