Lake Erie Uses Big Third Inning to Top Washington

AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, benefitted from a pair of huge innings on Friday night at Sprenger Health Care Stadium, as they won their fifth straight game with a 10-0 victory over the Washington Wild Things. The victory for the Crushers (5-2) marked their second straight shutout and was their fifth straight win after starting the year with a pair of losses. The loss for the Wild Things (4-3) was their second on the road this season. Lake Erie sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five times on four hits while capitalizing on one error in the bottom of the third. After Ryan Castellanos (0-1) retired the first seven batters he faced, he hit Bryan DeLaRosa with a pitch, and Dalton Wheat made him pay three pitches later with a RBI triple to the left-center gap, giving the Crushers a 1-0 lead. Cameron Newell followed with a run scoring single back up the middle to score Wheat, giving the Crushers a 2-0 advantage.
