SIOUX CITY WINS 2018 OPENING GAME

Sioux City 7, Lincoln 4 The Sioux City Explorers topped the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-4 in the opening game of the 2018 American Association season. Jay Baum led the Explorers, going 3-4 at the dish while hitting the season’s first home run and picking up three RBIs. Sioux City had 14 hits on the night. Luis Durango (2 hits), Nate Samson (2), Nelson Ward (2) and Baum (3) all had multi-hit games for the Explorers. Lincoln tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth with two-run home run from Angel Reyes, but Sioux City answered with three runs of their own in the next frame to bring the game to its final score. Eric Karch (1-0) picked up the season’s first win after giving up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Geoff Broussard pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to pick up the season’s first save. Sioux City and Lincoln will continue their series tomorrow, while every other team in the Association will begin their’s. First pitch for Sioux City and Lincoln is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
