Baseball-related non-fungible tokens (NFT) for Matt McDermott
Matt began his professional baseball career in 1997 with the Waterbury Spirit (Northeast League). He was with the Spirit in 1998 and then came back to pro baseball in 2005 and 2006 briefly with the Fort Worth Cats (2005 Central Baseball League and 2006 American Association). He then was in uniform and served as both a team and league official from 2007-2009 with the Continental Baseball League’s Lewisville Lizards and McKinney Blue Thunder. Matt then returned in uniform briefly with the Las Cruces Vaqueros (Pecos League) in 2012 and again in 2017 with the Salina Stockade (American Association). He then served as an instructor to Houston Apollos manager David Peterson for a couple of games during the 2021 season.
The Pecos League-operated team played in the American Association during the 2021 season, and the Apollos team played all of its games on the road.
Here is the front and back of Matt’s 2021 NFT baseball card. It is part of the first “minor league baseball” (affiliated or independent professional) team card set to be sold digitally as NFTs on the OpenSea.io platform. Other minor league cards have been made into NFT’s, but at the time of the Apollos NFT drop (card set launch) no traditional “team set” yet has been made into a NFT collection.
